Co-amoxiclav (amoxicillin & clavulanic acid). Per tab Amoxicillin 500 mg, clavulanic acid 125 mg. Per powd for inj Amoxicillin 1 g, clavulanic acid 200 mg
Indications/Uses
Treatment of variety of susceptible infections eg, actinomycosis, biliary tract infections, bronchitis, endocarditis (prophylaxis), gastroenteritis (eg, Salmonella enteritis), gonorrhea, Lyme disease, mouth infections, otitis media, pneumonia, spleen disorders (pneumococcal infection prophylaxis), typhoid & paratyphoid fever & UTI. H. pylori infection in patients w/ peptic ulcer.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Usual dose: Adult 250-500 mg. Childn ≤10 yr 125-250 mg; <20 kg 20-40 mg/kg daily in divided doses. All doses to be given 8 hrly. Infant <3 mth 30 mg/kg daily in divided doses 12 hrly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Preferably taken at the start of meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Adverse Reactions
Skin rash, diarrhea, nausea & vomiting. Hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, exfoliative dermatitis, pseudomembranous colitis.
Drug Interactions
Allopurinol.
