Contents
Co-amoxiclav (amoxicillin & clavulanic acid). Per 625 mg tab Amoxicillin 500 mg, clavulanic acid 125 mg.
Indications/Uses
Infections due to β-lactamase-producing strains (where amoxicillin alone is not appropriate) including resp tract, GUT, abdominal & severe dental, skin & soft tissue infections; cellulitis, animal bites, acute otitis media, sinusitis & UTI.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 625-mg to 1-g tab 12 hrly. Severe infections 625-mg to 1-g tab 8 hrly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Preferably taken at the start of a meal for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of allergic reactions to any penicillin or any component. Previous history of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated w/ amoxicillin/clavulanate K.
Special Precautions
Renal & hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Mucocutaneous candidiasis. Diarrhea/loose stools, nausea, skin rashes & urticaria, vomiting & vaginitis.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid, anticoagulants, OCs, allopurinol.
