Indications/Uses
Infections including bone & joint infections, endocarditis, peritonitis, pneumonia, skin infections & toxic shock syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take at least 30 min before meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to β-lactam antibiotics (eg, penicillins, cephalosporins). Not to be used in the eye, either conjunctivally or locally. Patients w/ previous history of flucloxacillin-associated jaundice/hepatic dysfunction.
Special Precautions
Liver toxicity, severe hepatitis & cholestatic jaundice in older patients & those who take the drug for prolonged periods. Previous hypersensitivity reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins or other allergens. Discontinue therapy if allergic reaction occurs. Serious anaphylactic reactions. Antibiotic-associated pseudomembranous colitis. Patients w/ history of allergy, especially to drugs. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions, especially skin rashes. Haemolytic anemia & neutropenia, prolongation of bleeding time & defective platelet function; convulsions & other signs of CNS toxicity; & electrolyte disturbances. Rarely, hepatitis & cholestatic jaundice.
Drug Interactions
Decreased renal tubular secretion resulting to increased & prolonged blood levels w/ probenecid. Loss of activity or physical incompatibility in soln w/ numerous other drugs.
