Citicoline (FC tab: Na)
Indications/Uses
FC tab: Cerebrovascular disorders including ischemic stroke, parkinsonism & head injuries. Soln for inj: Stupor caused by head trauma, cerebral surgery, acute stage of cerebral infarction & hemiplegia after cerebral apoplexy; Parkinson's disease in combination w/ anticholinergics; concomitant therapy for pancreatitis w/ antiproteolytic agents.

Dosage/Direction for Use
FC tab 1 g once daily. Soln for inj Stupor caused by head trauma & cerebral surgery Adult 100-500 mg IM/IV once daily or bid in divided doses. Stupor caused by acute stage of cerebral infarction Adult 1 g once daily for 2 consecutive wk. Hemiplegia after cerebral apoplexy 1 g or 250 mg IV once daily for 4 wk. If symptoms improved, administer IV for 4 more wk. Parkinson's disease 500 mg once daily IV in concomitant therapy w/ anticholinergic agent then discontinue after 3-4 wk. May increase dose of anticholinergic agent or citicoline 250-500 mg concomitantly once daily every 2-3 wk unless levodopa can be used. Stop administration if disease is not improved after citicoline 500 mg + anticholinergic agent everyday for 2 wk. Pancreatitis 1 g IV once daily for 2 consecutive wk under concomitant therapy w/ antiproteolytic agents.

Overdosage

Patients w/ parasympathetic hypertonia.

Special Precautions
FC tab: Acute, severe, & progressive disturbances, intracranial pressure relieving drugs or measures to keep body temp low. Soln for inj: Should be given in concomitant w/ depressant & hypothermic agent in case of stupor caused by acute/severe/progressive head trauma or cerebral surgery. Women of childbearing potential. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.

Adverse Reactions
FC tab: Increased parasympathetic, fleeting & discrete hypotensor effects. Soln for inj: Hypotension, chest compression, dyspnea; eruption; headache, vertigo, excitation; nausea; abnormalities in hepatic test; burning sensation, temporary change in BP, malaise.

Drug Interactions
Potentiates the effects of L-dopa. FC tab: Not to be administered w/ meclofenoxate (clophenoxate).
