Acetylcysteine
Indications/Uses
Acute & chronic forms of airway diseases, chronic bronchitis, bronchoectasis, asthmoid bronchitis, asthma bronchiale, bronchiolitis, mucoviscidosis. Laryngitis, acute & chronic sinusitis, otitis media w/ effusion.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & adolescents ≥14 yr 600 mg once daily or ½ tab bid.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Dissolve 1 tab in ½ glass of water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <14 yr. Infant up to 10 days.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ phenylketonuria (contains aspartame).
Adverse Reactions
Allergic reactions (eg, urticaria, pruritus, exanthema, rash, swelling of the oropharyngeal mucous membranes, bronchospasms, tachycardia, decrease of BP).
Drug Interactions
May lead to dangerous congestion of the mucous secretion w/ antitussives. Semisynthetic penicilline, tetracycline, cephalosporins, aminoglycosides (take at least 2 hr delay). May increase vasodilation & platelet aggregation inhibiting effect of nitroglycerin.

R05CB01 - acetylcysteine ; Belongs to the class of mucolytics. Used in the treatment of wet cough.
