Dobutamine HCl
Increase heart contractility in acute heart failure, as occurs in cardiogenic shock & MI. Septic shock. Inotropic activity during cardiac surgery & +ve end-expiratory pressure ventilation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV infusion Management of acute heart failure Usual rate of 2.5-10 mcg/kg/min. Cardiac stress testing 1 mg/mL via infusion pump in a dose of 5 mcg/kg/min for 8 min. Dose to be increased by increments of 5 mcg/kg/min. Max: 20 mcg/kg/min w/ each dose infused for 8 min before the next increase; doses up to 40 mcg/kg/min may be used.
Hypersensitivity (due to Na sulfite content).
Special Precautions
Patients w/ marked obstruction of cardiac ejection eg, idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis. Patients w/ acute MI & in cardiogenic shock complicated by severe hypotension. Correct hypovolemia prior to treatment.
Adverse Reactions
Dose-related increase in heart rate & BP; ectopic beats, angina, palpitations. Rarely, ventricular tachycardia; cardiac rupture during stress testing.
Drug Interactions
Apparent α- & β2-agonist effects w/ β-blockers.

C01CA07 - dobutamine ; Belongs to the class of adrenergic and dopaminergic cardiac stimulants excluding glycosides. Used in the treatment of hypotension.
