Esomeprazole
Indications/Uses
PUD & NSAID-associated ulceration, GERD, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV PUD 20 mg bid for 7 days or 40 mg once daily for 10 days. NSAID-associated ulceration 20 mg daily. Prophylaxis in patient at risk of such lesions who require continued NSAID treatment 20 mg daily. GERD 40 mg once daily for 4 wk, may be extended for another 4 wk if necessary. Maintenance or for symptomatic disease w/o erosive esophagitis 20 mg daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to esomeprazole or substituted benzimidazoles.
Special Precautions
Symptomatic response to therapy does not preclude the presence of gastric malignancy. Atrophic gastritis in long-term treatment.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence, gastric, nausea & headache.
Drug Interactions
May affect bioavailability of ketoconazole, Fe salts. May decrease clearance & increase plasma levels of diazepam.
