Indications/Uses
RA & OA. Adjunctive treatment of adenomatous colorectal polyps. Management of acute pain & dysmenorrhea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult OA 200 mg as a single dose or 2 divided doses. Max: 500 mg daily. RA 100 or 200 mg bid. Max: 800 mg daily. Pain & dysmenorrhea Initially 400 mg followed by an additional dose of 200 mg, if necessary, is recommended on the 1st day; thereafter 200 mg daily. Adjunct to standard therapy to reduce the number of adenomatous colorectal polyps in patient w/ familial adenomatous polyposis 400 mg bid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Dose for OA/RA may be given w/ or w/o meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Asthma, urticaria or allergic type reactions after taking ASA or NSAIDs. Patients w/ previous or active peptic ulceration. CVA, MI, CABG, uncontrolled HTN, CHF.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ cardiac, liver & renal disease. Compromised cardiac function & other conditions predisposing to fluid retention. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, nausea; dizziness, headache, insomnia; upper resp tract infections, skin rash, back pain, peripheral edema.
Drug Interactions
May diminish the antihypertensive effect of ACE inhibitors. Reduced natriuretic effect of furosemide & thiazides. Increased rate of GI ulceration w/ aspirin. Increased plasma conc w/ fluconazole. Increased risk of bleeding complications w/ warfarin. Lithium.
