Escitalopram oxalate
Depression, panic disorder w/ or w/o agoraphobia. Anxiety disorders including panic attack, obsessive-compulsive disorders & social phobia. For schizophrenia in combination w/ social therapy & antipsychotic drug.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Depression & anxiety disorder 10 mg once daily, increased to at least max of 20 mg once daily after at least wk if necessary. Mild to moderate hepatic impairment or poor metaboliser Initially 5 mg daily, may increase to 10 mg daily after 2 wk.
May be taken with or without food.
Hypersensitivity to escitalopram oxalate or citalopram. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs & pimozide.
Special Precautions
Avoid abrupt discontinuation. Abnormal bleeding. Hyponatremia. Patients w/ a history of mania. Seizure. Risk of serotonin syndrome w/ triptans, tramadol or other serotonergic agents; NSAIDs, aspirin or other drugs that affect coagulation. Pregnancy (category C). Lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, insomnia, fatigue; ejaculation disorders (in male patients).
Drug Interactions
Potential for serotonin syndrome w/ serotonergic drugs, triptans, linezolid, lithium, tramadol, St. John's wort. Alcohol. Risk of bleeding w/ NSAIDs, aspirin, warfarin. SSRI & sumatriptan.
