Indications/Uses
Fe deficiency anemia in patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis who are receiving supplemental erythropoietin therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & elderly Individualized dosage. Max: 200 mg not >3 wk. IV drip infusion 5 mL (100 mg Fe) diluted soln in at least 15 min or 10 mL (200 mg Fe) in at least 30 min. Slow IV inj Rate: 1 mL (20 mg Fe) undiluted soln/min (ie, 5 min/amp) not exceeding 2 amp (200 mg Fe)/inj.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Anemia not caused by Fe deficiency. Fe overload or disturbances in Fe utilisation. Patients w/ asthma, eczema or other atopic allergy. Pregnancy (1st trimester).
Special Precautions
Hypotensive episodes if administered too rapidly. Avoid paravenous leakage. Careful monitoring of Fe status. Patients w/ liver dysfunction; acute or chronic infection. Avoid in patients w/ hepatic dysfunction. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Transient taste perversion, hypotension, fever & shivering, inj site reactions & nausea.
