Indications/Uses
RA & OA. Adjunctive treatment of adenomatous colorectal polyps. Management of acute pain & dysmenorrhea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
OA 200 mg daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses. If necessary, may be increased to 200 mg bid. RA 100-200 mg bid. Pain & dysmenorrhea Initially 400 mg followed by 200 mg if necessary on the 1st day & 200 mg bid thereafter. Adenomatous colorectal polyps 400 mg bid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Dose for adenomatous polyposis, take w/ meals.
Contraindications
Asthma, stroke (CVA), heart attack (MI), CABG, uncontrolled HTN, CHF NYHA II-IV. Severe heart failure, inflammatory bowel disease & renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min).
Special Precautions
Severe hepatic impairment, history of hypersensitivity to sulfonamides; allergy to NSAIDs & asthma; patients w/ ischemic heart disease & those w/ risk factors for heart disease, HTN, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, smoking & peripheral heart disease. Discontinue use if skin rash or signs of hypersensitivity. Severe hepatic impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Hypertensive effects, GI & renal toxicity.
Drug Interactions
Changes in plasma conc w/ CYP2C9 inhibitor (fluconazole). Increased plasma conc w/ fluconazole. Inhibit drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
