Per 5 mL Dextromethorphan HBr 5 mg, guaifenesin 50 mg
Indications/Uses
Temporarily relieves cough due to minor throat & bronchial irritation as may occur w/ a cold & expectorant actions to help loosen phlegm & thin bronchial secretion to make cough more productive. Helps relieve chest congestion.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn 6-11 yr 5-10 mL every 4 hr, 4-5 yr 2.5-5 mL every 4 hr. Max: 6 doses/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to dextromethorphan or guiafenesin. Dextromethorphan: Patients receiving MAOIs.
Special Precautions
History of asthma; bronchitis, emphysema, or in other conditions where chronic or persistent cough occurs. Not to be given during an acute attack. Dextromethorphan: Patients at risk of developing resp failure. Childn <4 yr.
Adverse Reactions
GI discomfort, nausea & vomiting, dizziness.
Drug Interactions
Dextromethorphan: Amiodarone, haloperidol, propafenone, quinidine, SSRIs & thioridazine.
