Induction & maintenance of general anesth. Also used in subanesth doses to provide analgesia in obstet & other painful procedures.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Induction: Initiate at a conc of 0.5%. Surgical anesth usually produced in 10 min w/ conc of 1.5-3%. Maintenance: 1-2.5% isoflurane in O2/nitrous oxide mixtures. An additional 0.5-0.75% isoflurane may be required when given w/ O2 & nitrous oxide to maintain anesth for caesarian section.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ raised intracranial pressure. Increased blood loss may occur after curettage or termination of pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Resp depression, hypotension, arrhythmias, malignant hyperthermia.
