Indications/Uses
Type 2 diabetes inadequate to control blood glucose by dietary measures alone.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take whole tab w/ ½ glass of water immediately before breakfast. Every administration must be followed by a meal.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. IDDM, diabetic coma, pre-coma, extreme imbalance w/ tendency to acidosis, surgical stress or acute infection. Hepatic or renal failure. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Hypoglycemia in patient w/ reduced dietary intake or after overdose, severe exercise, alcohol intake, trauma & stress. Adjust dose according to blood & urinary glucose levels during the 1st mth.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, diarrhea, gastric pain, constipation, vomiting; rash, pruritus, urticaria, erythema, flushing; headache, dizziness.
Drug Interactions
Aggravation of diabetic state w/ thiazide diuretics. May adversely  affect blood sugar control w/ barbiturates, chlorpromazine, danazol, glucocorticoids, estrogens & progestogens, salbutamol, terbutaline. May potentiate effects & increase risk of hypoglycemia w/ insulin, biguanides, sulfonamides, oxyphenbutazone, phenylbutazone, clofibrate, salicylates (high doses), coumarin derivatives, chloramphenicol, MAOIs, β-blockers, cimetidine, ACE inhibitors, ethanol, fluconazole, miconazole, alcohol.
