Contents
Elemental Fe 60 mg (as Fe sulfate 187 mg), folic acid 600 mcg, pyridoxine HCl (vit B6) 20 mg, cyanocobalamin (vit B12) 25 mcg
Indications/Uses
Prevention & treatment of Fe deficiency anemia, folate deficiency & for the lowering of plasma homocysteine.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab daily, as soon as pregnancy is detected.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Preferably taken between meals. May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Conditions associated w/ Fe overload (eg, hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis, thalassemia).
Special Precautions
Chronic liver failure, alcoholic cirrhosis, chronic alcoholism & pancreatic insufficiency. History of gastritis, peptic ulcer & GI bleeding. Active or suspected infection. Moderate increase in Fe stores is associated w/ increased risk of ischemic heart disease & cancer.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea. Fe: Vomiting, bloating, abdominal discomfort/epigastric pain, black stools, diarrhea, constipation & anorexia; metallic taste; flatulence, GI irritation, heartburn, stomach discomfort; hemosiderosis (long-term administration of large amounts of Fe). Vit B6: Sleepiness; headache, paresthesia; decreased serum folic acid conc, increased AST.
Drug Interactions
Reduced absorption of cefdinir, bisphosphonates, carbidopa/levodopa, entacapone, fluoroquinolones, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa, mycophenolate mofetil, penicillamine, & tetracyclines.
