Cetirizine (FC tab: diHCl; oral soln: HCl)
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of allergic conditions including rhinitis & chronic urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
FC tab Adult & childn ≥7 yr 10 mg once daily or 5 mg bid. 2-6 yr Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis 5 mg once daily or 2.5 mg bid. Patients w/ renal impairment ½ usual dose. Oral soln Adult or childn <12 yr 10 mL once daily. 6-12 yr 10 mL daily either single dose or divided doses. 2-6 yr 5 mL daily either single dose or divided doses. Patients w/ renal impairment ½ usual dose.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Adverse Reactions
Occasional GI effects eg, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or epigastric pain. Palpitations & arrhythmias. Rashes & hypersensitivity reactions eg, bronchospasm, angioedema & anaphylaxis. Rarely, blood disorders eg, agranulocytosis, leucopenia, hemolytic anemia & thrombocytopenia. Convulsions, sweating, myalgia, paresthesia, extrapyramidal effects, tremor, sleep disturbances, depression, confusion, tinnitus, hypotension & hair loss.
Drug Interactions
Alcohol, non-sedating antihistamines eg, astemizole & terfenadine.
