Contents
Per 5 mL Vit B1 10 mg, vit B6 5 mg, vit B12 25 mcg, L-lysine HCl 300 mg, elemental Fe 30 mg
Indications/Uses
Treatment & prevention of vit B-complex deficiency & Fe-deficiency anemia (IDA).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Supplement Adult 10 mL daily. Childn 6-11 yr 5-10 mL daily, 2-5 yr 2.5-5 mL daily. IDA Adult 20 mL daily in divided doses. Childn 3-6 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ food to reduce GI disturbances.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Fe-storage or Fe-absorption diseases eg, hemochromatosis, hemoglobinopathies, or existing GI diseases eg, inflammatory bowel, intestinal strictures & diverticulae. Patients w/ either adequate Fe stores or overload may provide optimum conditions for microbial growth & be susceptible to an increased incidence & severity of infection. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn (B vit & Fe in large doses).
Adverse Reactions
GI irritation, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, & dark stool.
Drug Interactions
May interfere w/ oral tetracycline antibiotics absorption. Allergic hypersensitivity w/ vit B12 compd. May impair absorption w/ food; compd containing Ca & Mg, including antacids & mineral supplements & bicarbonates, carbonates, oxalates or phosphates. May decrease absorption of cefdinir, bisphosphonates, entacapone, fluoroquinolones, levodopa, methyldopa, mycophenolate mofetil & penicillamine. Reduced levothyroxine efficacy. May decrease absorption w/ Zn salts. May delay response to Fe w/ chloramphenicol. Increased absorption w/ ascorbic & citric acid.
