Adverse Reactions
Common side effects of iron containing medications include gastrointestinal irritation, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and dark stool. Adverse effects can be reduced by giving it with or after food (rather than on an empty stomach) or by beginning therapy with a small dose and increasing gradually.
