Levocetirizine HCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of allergic conditions including rhinitis & chronic urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn ≥12 yr 10 mL once daily in the evening, 6-11 yr 5 mL once daily in the evening. Adult, childn ≥12 yr & renal impairment CrCl 50-79 mL/min 2.5 mg once daily, 30-49 mL/min 2.5 mg every other day, 10-29 mL/min 2.5 mg once every 3 or 4 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. End-stage renal disease (CrCl <10 mL/min or undergoing hemodialysis). Childn 6 mth-11 yr w/ renal impairment.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ epilepsy. Avoid inappropriate use for postural giddiness. Renal & hepatic impairment. Concurrent use w/ alcohol or other CNS depressants. Drowsiness may affect performance of skilled tasks. Elderly. Childn & neonates.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or epigastric pain. Palpitations, arrhythmia. Rashes, hypersensitivity reaction (eg, bronchospasm, angioedema, anaphylaxis) & cross sensitivity. Convulsions, sweating, myalgia, paresthesias, extrapyramidal effects, tremors, sleep disturbances, depression, confusion, tinnitus, hypotension & hair loss. Somnolence, fatigue, asthenia & urinary retention.
Drug Interactions
Additional impairment of CNS performance may occur w/ alcohol or other CNS depressants. May suppress cutaneous histamine response to allergen extr & should be stopped several days before skin testing.
