Indications/Uses
To reduce LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglycerides, apolipoprotein B & increase HDL cholesterol, in the management of hyperlipidemias including type IIa, type IIb, type III, type IV & type V hyperlipoproteinemias.

Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult
Hypercholesterolemia, primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia (Fredrickson type 2a, 2b)
160 mg daily. Max: 160 mg/day.
Hypertriglyceridemia, Fredrickson types 4 & 5 hyperlipidemia
Adjunct to diet: Initially 50-160 mg once daily, adjust dose after repeated lipid tests at 4-8 wk intervals. Max: 160 mg orally daily.

Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Gallbladder disease, active liver disease. Severe renal dysfunction. Lactation.

Special Precautions
Concomitant therapy w/ HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (eg, lovostatin, pravastatin, simvastatin) or fenofibric acid derivatives (eg, gemfibrozil) should be avoided, concomitant therapy w/ anticoagulants, cholelithiasis, diabetic patients, hypothyroidism, hypersensitivity reactions, myopathies, pancreatitis, renal dysfunction, serum transaminases (AST & ALT) increases of >3 times the upper limit of normal. Childn. Elderly.
