Fenofibrate
Indications/Uses
Reduction of LDL-cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglycerides, apolipoprotein B & to increase HDL-cholesterol. Hyperlipidemias including type IIa, IIb, III, IV & V hyperlipoproteinemias.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 200-300 mg daily in divided doses, adjusted according to response between 200 & 400 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. CrCl <15 mL/min unless patient is on dialysis.
Special Precautions
Severe hepatic impairment or significant liver disease, gallstones or gallbladder disorders or hypoalbuminemic states eg, nephrotic syndrome. Renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances including anorexia, nausea & gastric discomfort.
Drug Interactions
May displace other drugs from protein binding sites. Changes in the activity of CYP450 particularly CYP3A4.
