Indications/Uses
Treatment of NIDDM in patients who are no longer responding to sulphonylureas, either alone or in combination.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 500 mg bid or tid or 850 mg once or bid. Gradually increase to a max of 2-3 g daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ or after meals.
Special Precautions
IDDM, ketoacidosis, severe infection, stress, trauma & other severe conditions; severe renal or hepatic impairment; heart failure, recent MI, dehydration, acute or chronic alcoholism or any other condition likely to predispose to lactic acidosis. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI effects including anorexia, nausea & diarrhea; impaired absorption of various substances including vit B12; metallic taste & wt loss.
Drug Interactions
Risk of lactic acidosis in concomitant w/ cimetidine.
