Losartan K
Indications/Uses
Management of HTN & diabetic nephropathy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
50 mg once daily. May be increased to 100 mg daily as single dose or 2 divided doses. Elderly >75 yr & patient w/ moderate to severe renal impairment (CrCl <20 mL/min) or intravascular fluid depletion Initially 25 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Patients w/ renal artery stenosis, renal or hepatic impairment & vol depletion. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, headache & dose-related orthostatic hypotension; hyperkalemia; resp tract disorder, back pain, GI disturbances, fatigue, neutropenia, hypotension, renal impairment, rash, pruritus, angioedema, urticaria, elevated liver enzyme, myalgia & fatigue.
Drug Interactions
May potentiate antihypertensive effects w/ other agents that lower BP. Additive hyperkalemic effect w/ K-sparing diuretics & other drugs causing hyperkalemia. May increase risk of renal impairment w/ NSAIDs. Drugs affecting CYP450 isoenzymes.
