Indications/Uses
Treatment of infections due to susceptible organisms including resp & urinary tract, enteric, gonorrhea, meningitis & septicemia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult IM 500 mg 6 hrly. IV 2-12 g/day. Childn & babies IM 50 mg/kg/24 hr divided in 2 inj. IV 100-300 mg/kg/24 hr. Adjust dosage in patients w/ renal impairment.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins & cephalosporins. Patients w/ viruses belonging to the herpes-group.
Special Precautions
Nephritic insufficiency, allergic reactions, cutaneous infections due to allergy.
Adverse Reactions
Signs of allergy especially pruritus, urticaria, skin rash, Quincke's edema. Digestive disorders eg, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, candidiasis, stomatitis.
Drug Interactions
Allopurinol enhances risk of cutaneous troubles.
