Amoxicillin trihydrate
Indications/Uses
Resp, GIT, GUT, skin & soft-tissue infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn <40 kg & infant >3 mth ENT, GUT or skin & skin structure infections Mild to moderate infection 25 mg/kg in divided doses 12 hrly or 20 mg/kg in divided doses 8 hrly. Severe infection 45 mg/kg in divided doses 12 hrly or 40 mg/kg in divided doses 8 hrly. Acute otitis media 80-90 mg/kg in divided doses 12 hrly. Lower resp tract infection 45 mg/kg in divided doses 12 hrly. Neonate & infant 20-30 mg/kg in divided doses 12 hrly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Infectious mononucleosis.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Renal impairment. Lymphatic leukemia.
Adverse Reactions
Gl disturbances, allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, blood disorders, superinfections.
Drug Interactions
Methotrexate. Probenecid prolongs plasma t½ of amoxicillin. Allopurinol increases incidence of skin rashes. Reduces effectiveness of OCs.
