Each mL contains Furosemide 10 mg.
Furosemide is a diuretic recommended for use when a prompt and effective diuresis is required. The intravenous formulation is appropriate for use in emergencies or when oral therapy is precluded. Indications include cardiac, pulmonary, hepatic, and renal edema.
Furosemide injection must always be given slowly. The diuretic effect of Furosemide is proportional to dosage. Doses of 20-40 mg intramuscularly or intravenously may be given initially, if larger doses are required. They should be given by slow infusion and titrated according to the response.
Children: Parental doses for children range from 0.5-1.5 mg/kg bodyweight daily up to a maximum total daily dose of 20 mg.
Elderly: In the elderly, Furosemide is generally eliminated more slowly. Dosage should be titrated until the required responses are achieved.
In case of overdose, there is danger of dehydration and electrolyte depletion due to excessive diuresis. Treatment should therefore be aimed at fluid replacement and correction of the imbalance.
Furosemide is contraindicated in anuria, electrolyte deficiency and pre-comatose states associated with liver cirrhosis.
Hypersensitivity to Furosemide or Sulfonamides.
Intravenous injection of Furosemide must always be given slowly, i.e. at the rate not exceeding 4 mg/minute.
Patients with prostatic hypertrophy or impairment of micturation have an increased risk of developing acute retention.
Where indicated, steps should be taken to correct hypotension or hypovolemia before commencing therapy.
Caution should be observed in patients liable to electrolyte deficiency. Result of animal work, in general, show no hazardous effect of Furosemide in pregnancy. There is clinical evidence of safety of the drug in the third trimester of human pregnancy, however, Furosemide should be used with caution in nursing mothers.
Use in lactation: As Furosemide may inhibit lactation or may pass into breast milk, it should be used with caution in nursing mothers. Injection of Furosemide should not be mixed with any other preparations. Opened ampoule should be used immediately and excess should be discarded.

Furosemide is generally well tolerated. Side effects of a minor nature such as nausea, malaise or gastric upset may occur but are not usually severe enough to necessitate withdrawal of treatment. Serum Calcium levels may be reduced, in very rare case there has been observed Nephrocalcinosis has been reported in premature infants.
The indications of allergic reactions, such as skin rashes, photosensitivity, vasculitis, fever, interstitial nephritis or shock, is very slow but when these occur, treatment should be withdrawn. Standard measures for the treatment of shock should be taken if necessary.
Isolated cases of acute pancreatitis have been reported after long term diuretic (Including Furosemide) treatment. Disorder of hearing after Furosemide is rare, and in most cases reversible. They may occur if Furosemide is injected too rapidly, particularly in patients with renal insufficiency.
As with other diuretics, a transient rise in creatinine and urea levels has been reported with Furosemide. In common with other sulfonamide-based diuretics hyperuricaemia may occur and in rare cases, clinical gout may be precipitated.
Bone marrow depression has been reported as a rare completion and necessitates withdrawal of treatment.
Preexisting metabolic alkalosis (e.g. decompensated cirrhosis of the liver) may be aggravated by Furosemide treatment.
Reduced mental alertness may impair ability to drive or operate dangerous machinery.
