Cisplatin
Indications/Uses
Treatment of metastic tumors of the testis, usually as a major component of combination chemotherapy regimens, & particularly in combination w/ bleomycin & etoposide (BEP); Ametastatic ovarian tumors, lung & advanced bladder cancer; & has been reported to be active against a wide range of other solid tumors.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Ovarian & bladder cancers 50-120 mg/m2 BSA as single dose every 3-4 wk. Combination chemotherapy of testicular tumors 20 mg/m2 daily for 5 days every 3 wk.
Contraindications
Patients w/ renal or hearing impairment & bone marrow depression.
Special Precautions
Monitor renal & neurological function & hearing. Perform regular blood counts. Maintain adequate hydration & urinary output before & for 24 hr after administration.
Adverse Reactions
Severe nausea & vomiting, nephrotoxicity, electrolyte disturbances, hypomagnesemia, hypocalcemia, hyperuricemia, bone marrow depression, ototoxicity, peripheral neuropathies, loss of taste, seizures, ocular toxicities, optic neuritis, papilloedema, cerebral blindness, anaphylactoid reactions, cardiac abnormalities.
Drug Interactions
Nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs.
