Prevacid FDT Duodenal/gastric/stomal ulcer, H. pylori-associated peptic ulcer, reflux esophagitis, ped GERD, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, NSAID-induced/-associated gastric ulcers. Prevention of recurrence of gastric/duodenal ulcer during NSAID administration. Adjunct to H. pylori eradication. Prevacid IV Patients who are unable to take oral formulations: Gastric/duodenal ulcer, acute stress ulcer & gastric mucosal lesion accompanied by bleeding.
Dosage/Direction for Use
FDT tab Adult Duodenal ulcer 30 mg once daily for 4-6 wk. Gastric & stomal ulcer, reflux esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome 30 mg once daily up to 8 wk. Eradication of H. pylori in patients w/ duodenal & gastric ulcer 30 mg bid + clarithromycin 250 mg bid + amoxicillin 1 g bid or metronidazole 500 mg bid for 7 days. Maintenance therapy of reflux esophagitis & duodenal ulcer, elderly & hepatic impairment 15 mg once daily. Childn 12-17 yr Short-term treatment of symptomatic GERD: Non-erosive GERD 15 mg once daily for 8 wk. Erosive esophagitis 30 mg once daily for 8 wk; 1-11 yr Short-term treatment of symptomatic GERD or erosive esophagitis >30 kg 30 mg once daily up to 12 wk, <30 kg 15 mg once daily up to 12 wk. IV Adult Gastric, duodenal & acute stress ulcer, acute gastric mucosal lesion accompanied by bleeding 30 mg bid.
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Do not chew/crush.
Hypersensitivity. Atazanavir sulfate. Lactation.
Special Precautions
Hepatic disorders. Closely observe course of disease & use min therapeutic necessity according to disease condition. Discontinue use in cases of anaphylactic or hematologic reactions; severe hepatic dysfunction; toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome; pseudomembranous colitis; fever, cough, dyspnea, crepitation; interstitial nephritis. May mask symptoms of malignant tumor eg, gastric/esophageal cancer or other GI disorders. Pregnancy. Childn <1 yr. Elderly. FDT tab: Confirm history of gastric or duodenal ulcer prior to use in patients under continuous NSAID therapy. H. pylori eradication in advanced stage of gastric MALT lymphoma; risk of bleeding in idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura patients. Not for use as maintenance therapy for gastric, duodenal & stomal ulcer. Administer & perform periodic endoscopy in maintenance of healing reflux esophagitis only to patients who repeat recurrence & recrudescence. IV: Treatment >7 days. Patients w/ projectile/oozing bleeding or at risk for rapid bleeding should undergo endoscopic hemostasis.
Adverse Reactions
Pancytopenia, agranulocytosis, granulocytopenia, severe hepatic dysfunction w/ jaundice, toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), Stevens-Johnson syndrome; interstitial pneumonia, nephritis, rash, pruritus, erythema multiforme; increased SGOT, SGPT, alkaline phosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase, γ-GTP or bilirubin; eosinophilia, neutropenia, leukocytosis, anemia, thrombocytopenia; GI disturbances; headache, sleepiness, numbness, depressed state, insomnia, dizziness, tremor, pseudomembranous colitis, increased triglyceride or uric acid, increased/decreased total cholesterol, +ve urinary protein, +ve urine sugar, fever, gynecomastia, blurred vision, edema, weakness malaise, muscle pain. Alopecia, hyponatraemia.
Drug Interactions
May diminish effect of atazanavir sulfate. May diminish effect of rilpivinine HCl. May decrease conc of theophylline in blood & increase in tacrolimus hydrate. May enhance effects of digoxin & methyldigoxin & diminish effect of itraconazole & gefitinib. Increase in the conc of methotrexate in blood may occur. May delay metabolism & excretion of phenytoin & diazepam.
