Indications/Uses
Treatment of susceptible infections including chancroid, endocarditis, gastroenteritis, gonorrhea, Lyme disease, meningitis, pneumonia, septicemia, syphilis, typhoid fever & Whipple's disease. Surgical infection prophylaxis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 1-2 g. Max 4 g. Childn & infant 20-80 mg/kg. Neonate 25-50 mg/kg. All doses should be taken once daily.
Meningitis Childn & infant 100 mg/kg once daily. Max 4 g daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation. Neonates & premature.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances. Occasionally, headache & dizziness.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ similar compd & furosemide. Chloramphenicol.
