Co-amoxiclav (amoxicillin & clavulanic acid): Amoxicillin 500 mg, clavulanic acid 125 mg
Indications/Uses
UTI, otitis media, sinusitis, lower resp tract & skin infection, polymicrobial infections w/ mixed aerobic & anaerobic eg, diabetic foot, gynecologic infections, intra-abdominal infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr Mild to moderate infections 1 tab bid. Severe infections 2 tab bid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Preferably taken at the start of meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillin. Cross-sensitivity w/ other β-lactam antibiotics eg, cephalosporin. Previous history of amoxicillin or penicillin-associated jaundice/hepatic dysfunction.
Special Precautions
Previous hypersensitivity reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins or other allergens. Hepatic dysfunction, erythematous rashes associated w/ glandular fever. Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.
Drug Interactions
Caution use w/ anticoagulants. Reduced efficacy of OCs.
