Domperidone
Indications/Uses
Antiemetic for the short-term treatment of nausea & vomiting of various aetiologies. Used for its prokinetic actions in dyspepsia & in diabetic gastroparesis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Nausea & vomiting Adult & elderly 10-20 mg (10-20 mL) every 6-8 hr. Childn 0.2-0.4 mg/kg (2-4 mL) every 6-8 hr. Symptomatic management of non-ulcer dyspepsia 10 mg qid.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 15-30 min before meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. GI stimulation eg, GI hemorrhage, obstruction, perforation or immediately after surgery.
Special Precautions
Not recommended for chronic use or for the routine prophylaxis of postop nausea & vomiting. Risk of extrapyramidal reactions in young childn. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Hyperprolactinemia. Galactorrhea, breast enlargement, soreness & reduced libido. Dry mouth, thirst, headache, nervousness, drowsiness, diarrhea, skin rash & itch.
Drug Interactions
May reduce the risk of hyperprolactinemic effect of bromocriptine. May antagonize action on GI function w/ antimuscarinics & opioid analgesics.
