Recombinant human insulin isophane
Treatment of DM in patients who require insulin.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Administer 30 min-1 hr before a meal.
Hypersensitivity. Hypoglycemia, IV administration of insulin susp.
Special Precautions
Change of insulin should be made w/ caution. Conduct appropriate testing prior initiation in patients who have previously developed generalized allergic reactions to insulin. Requirement may be affected by high fever, severe infection, emotional stress, GI disorders, pituitary, adrenal or thyroid gland disorders. Avoid using too much or not enough insulin, missing/delaying meals or more than the recommended meal plan, increased level of exercise, infection or illness, fever, alcohol intake, drugs that lower blood glucose. Insulin resistance (long-term use). Concomitant use of pioglitazone. May impair ability to drive or use machinery. Renal & hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, allergy to insulin, insulin resistance, post-insulin lipodystrophy.
Drug Interactions
Insulin requirements may be reduced by oral hypoglycemics, β-blockers, ACE inhibitors, MAOIs, methyldopa, salicylates, alcohol, anabolic steroids, sulfonamide antibiotics, tetracyclines, antibacterial quinolones, α-adrenergic blocking agents, octreotide. Insulin requirements may be increased by some diuretics, estrogens (including OCs), thyroid replacement therapy, heparin, corticosteroids, growth hormone, adrenalin, isoniazid, phenothiazides, β-2 stimulants (eg, salbutamol, terbutaline).
