Indications/Uses
Pre-op sedation, conscious sedation prior to short diagnostic or endoscopic procedures, induction of general anesth prior to administration of other anesth agents.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Pre-op sedation Adult >60 yr 0.07-0.08 mg/kg IM 1 hr prior to surgery. Conscious sedation 1 mg/mL by slow IV inj.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Patients w/ COPD, impaired renal function. High risk surgical patients. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Fluctuations in vital signs. Apnea, pain & tenderness at inj site.
Drug Interactions
Morphine, meperidine, fentanyl, thiopentone, β-blockers, Ca channel blockers, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, levodopa, Mg sulfate, nitrates, halothane, cimetidine, ranitidine. Alcohol.
