Indications/Uses
Prevention of nausea & vomiting induced by cytotoxic therapy. Treatment & prevention of post-op nausea & vomiting.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Prophylaxis of acute nausea & vomiting associated w/ cytotoxic chemotherapy Single dose of 5 mg by slow IV inj (5 min) or infusion (15 min). Subsequent doses of 5 mg oral dose (in the morning at least 1 hr before meal) for 5 days. Post-op nausea & vomiting 2 mg by slow IV inj (over not <30 sec) or by infusion (over 15 min), w/in 2 hr of the end of anesth. Childn >2 yr 200 mcg/kg (max: 5 mg) before chemotherapy via IV inj over at least 1 min or by infusion (at a conc of 50 mcg/mL). >25 kg 5 mg oral dose once daily for up to 5 days. <25 kg 200 mcg/kg (max: 5 mg) IV once daily for up to 4 days.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ cardiac rhythm or conduction disturbances. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Fatigue, abdominal pain, diarrhoea; visual hallucinations, increased BP; prolonged QT interval.
Drug Interactions
Antiarrhythmics, β-blockers, or drugs that prolong QT interval.
