Carbocisteine
Indications/Uses
Relief of cough characterized by excessive or sticky sputum or phlegm to help treat resp tract disorders eg, acute bronchitis. Reduces exacerbations associated w/ COPD & inhibits adherence of bacteria & virus to human resp cells. Otitis media w/ effusion (glue ear).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap Adult & childn >12 yr 1 cap every 8 hr. Forte susp Adult & childn >12 yr 5 mL every 8 hr. Ped syr Childn 8-12 yr 15 mL every 8 hr, 4-7 yr 10 mL every 8 hr, 2-3 yr 5 mL every 8 hr. Ped susp Childn 8-12 yr 7.5 mL every 8 hr, 4-7 yr 5 mL every 8 hr, 2-3 yr 2.6 mL. Oral drops Childn 1-2 yr 1.5 mL every 6 hr.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Active stomach or intestinal ulcer.
Special Precautions
History of stomach or intestinal ulcer & GI bleeding.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, diarrhea, stomach discomfort, GI bleeding & skin rashes.
