Sulindac - oral

Sulindac helps relieve pain and inflammation associated with joint disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis(inflammation in joints of fingers, wrist, feet, ankles) ,osteoarthritis (damage of joints' surfaces), and ankylosing spondylitis (inflammation in joints of your spine).

This medicine is also used to provide relief in gout and painful shoulder.

Take Sulindac exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

This medicine should be taken with food or milk. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

Do not give this medicine for the treatment of pain in coronary artery bypass graft surgery (surgical procedure for blocked coronary artery).

Do not take this medicine if you have a history of allergic reactions (swollen eyes or mouth, difficulty breathing, rashes) to Sulindac or any other similar medicine such as aspirin.

Inform your doctor if you have any of these conditions:

- kidney disease
- liver disease
- asthma
- high blood pressure
- stomach ulcer

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

For as long as you are taking this medicine, blood tests and eye check up must be done regularly to monitor your body's response to the medicine. Your doctor will advise you how often you need to have them.

Sulindac may cause dizziness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

Other side effects may include any of the following: headache, stomach pain or discomfort, constipation, urine discoloration, stomach wind, nausea, diarrhoea, and rash.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience the following:

- yellowing of the skin or eyes
- rashes with peeling of the skin or blistering of the lips, mouth or eyes accompanied by fever
- frequent and persistent sore throat with fever, unusual bleeding or bruising
- chest pain, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, sweating with nausea and vomiting
- fever with upper stomach pain and fast heartbeat
- sharp pain in your back and side, blood in the urine
- pass out blood or black, tarry stools or vomit coffee-ground-like vomitus

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Inform your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines:

- medicines for blood thinning e.g. warfarin
- medicines for water retention or water pills e.g. furosemide
- other medicines for pain and inflammation e.g. diflunisal, aspirin
- medicines for organ transplant or immune disorder e.g. ciclosporin
- medicines for mood disorders e.g. lithium
- medicines for high blood pressure e.g. captopril, propanolol
- colestyramine (cholesterol-lowering medicine)

This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Sulindac.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Avoid alcohol.

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
