Vitamin B-complex.
Description
Each tablet contains vitamins B1 (thiamine HCl) 250 mg, B6 (pyridoxine HCl) 250 mg and B12 (cyanocobalamin) 500 mcg.
Action
Vitamins B1, B6 and B12 are essential catalysts in the synthesis, degradation and utilization of carbohydrates, amino acids and fats.
The complementary and synergistic actions of these 3 vitamins are very evident in their antineurotic effect. In fact, their deficiency or absence provokes the recurrence of neuropathies.
Pharmacology: Vitamins B1, B6, B12 are indispensable for the anatomic-functional integrity of the nerve cell. Vitamin B1 regulates the consumption of oxygen at the cerebral level and prevents the accumulation of neurotoxic metabolites eg, pyruvic acid and lactic acid.
Vitamin B6 controls the metabolism of amino acid essential for brain function. When administered in high doses, vitamin B6 exerts a normalizing action in extrapyramidal disturbances in which the proteidic exchange (decarboxylation and transamination) is particularly pronounced.
Vitamin B12 prevents the development of degenerative disorders of the nervous tissues. In addition, hypovitaminosis B12 may give rise to severe psychoses with extensive mental deterioration.
Of particular importance is the pharmacodynamic action (neurotropic and analgesic) of these 3 vitamins, whether they are administered alone or in combination in neuritic and neuralgic manifestations.
Vitamins B1, B6 and B12 participate in the detoxification process by facilitating reduction of toxic metabolites. Through the lipotropic action of cyanocobalamin, they protect the hepatic functions.
In high doses, vitamins B1 and B6 demonstrate antiasthenic and tonifying effects integrated by the anabolic effect of vitamin B12, probably attributable to better utilization of the surrounding amino acids.
It has also been demonstrated that B6 hypovitaminosis is frequently verifiable in patients with cardiac dysfunctions.
Pyridoxine participates in the carbohydrate metabolism of the heart. Administration of pyridoxine in high doses has been found to improve cardiac function.
The combination of B1 and B6 offers advantages in the complementary therapy of cardiac insufficiency and functional disturbances.
