Apply ointment to each lesion and massage gently. Treatment twice daily for 2 or 3 weeks is usually adequate, although treatment for 4-6 weeks might be required if thickening of the skin has occurred.
Hypersensitivity to tolnaftate.
If irritation occurs due to Tinactin, treatment should be discontinued.
Keep away from eyes and mucous membranes.
If a patient shows no improvement after 4 weeks of treatment with Tinactin, diagnosis should be reviewed. In mixed infections where bacteria or nonsusceptible fungi eg, Candida albicans are present, supplementary topical or systemic anti-infective therapy is indicated. Treatment with Tinactin should be discontinued if the patient's skin disease becomes worse.
Tinactin is essentially nonsensitizing and ordinarily does not sting or irritate intact or broken skin in either exposed or intertriginous areas. A few cases of sensitization have been confirmed and a few cases of mild irritation have been reported.
