Indications/Uses
External infections of the eye & its adnexa caused by susceptible bacteria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Ophth drops Mild to moderate disease Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 4 hr. Severe infection Instill 2 drops into the eye(s) hrly until improvement, then treatment should be reduced prior to discontinuation. Ophth oint Mild to moderate disease Apply 1.5 cm ribbon into the affected eye(s) bid-tid. Severe infection Apply 1.5 cm ribbon into the affected eye(s) every 3-4 hr until improvement, then treatment should be reduced prior to discontinuation.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Not for inj into the eye. Discontinue use if hypersensitivity develops. Cross-hypersensitivity to other aminoglycosides. Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi. Concomitant use w/ systemic tobramycin therapy. Pregnancy & lactation. Ophth drops: Wearing contact lens is not recommended during treatment of an ocular infection. Benzalkonium Cl content may cause eye irritation & discolor soft contact lenses. Remove contact lens prior to application & wait at least 15 min before reinsertion. Temporary blurred vision or other visual disturbances may affect the ability to drive or use machines. Ophth oint: May retard corneal wound healing.
Adverse Reactions
Localized ocular toxicity & hypersensitivity, including lid itching & swelling, & conjunctival erythema. Ocular discomfort & hyperaemia.
