Description
Each gram of ointment contains bacitracin 200 units, polymyxin B sulfate 4000 units and neomycin sulfate 3 mg in an inert petrolatum base.
Action
Topical antibacterial.
Pharmacology: Trimycin provides potent antibacterial activity against practically the whole range of skin bacteria, including those resistant to other antibacterial agents. Upon application, its non-aqueous base forms a firm protective coating over the infected areas of the skin. This permits longer-lasting and greater contact of the active ingredients with the lesions, thus ensuring prompt control of skin infection.
Indications/Uses
Highly effective against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms that cause skin infections eg, pyodermas, impetigo, erysipelas, decubitus ulcers and infected wounds.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply a thin layer over the affected area 1-3 times daily and cover with dry sterile dressing, or as prescribed by the physician.
Special Precautions
It is recommended that the lesions be cleansed or washed only with plain soap and water before applying Trimycin.
Storage
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
