Co-amoxiclav: Amoxicillin 500 mg, clavulanic acid 125 mg
Indications/Uses
Treatment of infections due to susceptible organisms including otitis media & sinusitis; UTI, lower resp tract, skin & soft tissue infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 250 mg/125 mg tid. Severe infections 500 mg/125 mg tid. Treatment duration: Should not exceed 14 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Preferably taken at the start of meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
History of allergy to penicillins. Previous history of cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction. Patients w/ mononucleosis.
Special Precautions
Periodic assessment of renal, hepatic & hematopoietic function during prolonged therapy. Discontinue use if superinfections occur (usually involving Pseudomonas or Candida). Pregnancy & lactation. Childn ≤12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, gastritis, stomatitis, glossitis, black "hairy" tongue, mucocutaneous candidiasis, enterocolitis & hemorrhagic/pseudomembranous colitis; skin rashes, pruritus, urticaria, angioedema, serum sickness-like reactions, erythema multiforme, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis; crystalluria; anemia including hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, thrombocytopenic purpura, eosinophilia, leukopenia & agranulocytosis.
