Indications/Uses
Treatment of peripheral & central neuropathic pain & generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in adults. Adjunctive therapy in adults w/ partial seizures w/ or w/o secondary generalization. Adjunctive therapy for adults w/ partial onset seizures.
Dosage/Direction for Use
150-600 mg daily in 2 or 3 divided doses. Neuropathic pain Initially 150 mg daily as 2 or 3 divided doses, may be increased to 300 mg daily after an interval of 3-7 days. Max: 600 mg daily after an additional 7-day interval. Epilepsy Initially 150 mg daily as 2 or 3 divided doses, may be increased to 300 mg daily after 1 wk. Max: 600 mg daily after an additional wk. GAD Initially 150 mg daily, may be increased to 300 mg daily after 1 wk. May be increased to 450 mg daily following an additional wk. Max: 600 mg daily after an additional wk.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if angioedema & hypersensitivity occurs. Previous episode of angioedema & those taking other drugs associated w/ angioedema. Avoid abrupt w/drawal. Peripheral edema. Concomitant use w/ thiazolidinedione. Renal impairment. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Childn <12 yr & adolescents. Elderly ≥65 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, somnolence; increased appetite; euphoric mood, confusion, irritability, decreased libido, disorientation, insomnia; ataxia, abnormal coordination, tremor, dysarthria, memory impairment, attention disturbance, paresthesia, sedation, balance disorder, lethargy, headache; blurred vision, diplopia; vertigo; vomiting, dry mouth, constipation, flatulence; erectile dysfunction; abnormal gait, feeling drunk, fatigue, peripheral edema, edema; increased wt.
Drug Interactions
May increase sedative effect w/ alcohol & drugs causing sedation. May increased the occurrence of wt gain & fluid retention & possibly heart failure w/ pioglitazone & rosiglitazone.
