Cefuroxime axetil
Indications/Uses
Bone & joint, skin & soft tissue, bronchitis & other lower resp tract infections; gonorrhea, meningitis, otitis media, peritonitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis. Surgical infection prophylaxis. UTI.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Uncomplicated UTI 125 mg bid. Resp tract infection 250-500 mg bid. Uncomplicated gonorrhea 4 g as a single dose. Usual course of therapy: 7 days (5-10 days range).
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ meals for optimum absorption.
Special Precautions
Prolonged use. Superinfection may occur. Concurrent use w/ potent diuretics. Patients w/ history of colitis & GI malabsorption.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances including diarrhea, nausea, vomiting; rarely, erythema multiforme including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis.
