Co-amoxiclav (amoxicillin 875 mg, clavulanic acid 125 mg)
Indications/Uses
UTI; otitis media or sinusitis; lower resp tract & skin infections; polymicrobial infections w/ mixed aerobic & anaerobic eg, diabetic foot, gynecologic infections, intra-abdominal infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Upper (otitis media) & lower (bronchitis) resp tract infection, UTI, skin & soft tissue infection 1 tab every 12 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken at the start of meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to β-lactams eg, penicillins & cephalosporins, & clavulanic acid.
Special Precautions
History of penicillin hypersensitivity &/or sensitivity to multiple allergens. Discontinue use if superinfections or allergic reaction occur. Pseudomembranous colitis. Pregnancy (1st trimester) & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI symptoms including stomach & abdominal pain, vomiting, & diarrhea; rash, hyperactivity or drowsiness.
Drug Interactions
Prolongation of bleeding & prothrombin time w/ anticoagulation therapy. May reduce efficacy of OCs. Increase likelihood of allergic skin reactions w/ allopurinol.
