Cefradine
Indications/Uses
Infections due to susceptible organisms including biliary tract infections, endocarditis (staphylococcal) & peritonitis (associated w/ continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis). Prophylaxis of infections during surgical procedures.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Deep IM or slow IV inj over 3-5 min or by infusion. Adult 2-4 g daily in 4 divided doses up to 8 g may be given. Childn 50-100 mg/kg daily in 4 divided doses increasing to 300 mg/kg daily in severe infections.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Patients sensitive to penicillins. Patients w/ renal impairment. History of GI disease especially colitis. Pregnancy (especially during 1st trimester) & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, skin & hypersensitivity reactions, thrombophlebitis, mild transient eosinophilia, leukopenia & neutropenia, dizziness, tightness in the chest & candidal vaginitis.
Drug Interactions
Delayed renal excretion w/ probenecid.
