Omeprazole
Indications/Uses
Treatment of duodenal & gastric ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux. Prophylaxis of acid aspiration pre-op.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV bolus 40 mg once daily for 5 days. IV inj 4 mg/mL given slowly over a period of 5 min. IV infusion single dose vial dissolved in 100 mL NaCl or glucose IV inj given over a period of 20-30 min.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, headache, diarrhea, constipation & flatulence. Abdominal pain, vomiting, skin rash, pruritus, urticaria. Paresthesia, dizziness, lightheadedness & faint feeling; somnolence, insomnia, vertigo; reversible mental confusion, agitation, depression & hallucinations.
Drug Interactions
Increased blood conc of diazepam, phenytoin & warfarin. Reduced absorption w/ ketoconazole. Delayed elimination of drugs metabolized by CYP450 enzyme system or drugs that are highly excreted in the liver.
