Oxymetazoline HCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of nasal & nasopharyngeal congestion due to the common cold, sinusitis, hay fever or other upper resp allergies.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥6 yr 2 or 3 sprays bd into each nostril, morning & evening.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to oxymetazoline or other adrenergic agents. Patients after trans-sphemoidal hypophysectomy; w/ narrow-angle glaucoma; acute CV disease or cardiac asthma; severe high BP; taking MAOIs or those who have taken MAOIs in the previous 2 wk.
Special Precautions
Heart disease, high BP, thyroid disease, diabetes or difficulty in urination due to enlargement of the prostate gland. May cause rebound congestion if used for >3 days. Do not use during pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended in childn <6 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Mild & transient burning, stinging, sneezing or increased nasal discharge.
Drug Interactions
Potentiated pressor effects w/ TCAs, maprotiline, other vasoconstrictive drugs or MAOIs.
