Indications/Uses
Prevention of acute nausea & vomiting associated w/ initial & repeated courses of moderately or highly emetogenic cancer chemotherapy in adult & childn <17 yr-1 mth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Chemotherapy-induced nausea & vomiting Adult 0.25 mg single dose infuse over 30 sec beginning approx 30 min before the start of chemotherapy. Childn 1 mth to <17 yr Single dose 20 mcg/kg (max: 1.5 mg single dose) infuse over 15 min beginning approx 30 min before the start of chemotherapy. Post-op nausea & vomiting 0.075 mg as single IV dose over 10 sec immediately before induction of anesth.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to other 5-HT3 receptor antagonists. Serotonin syndrome associated w/ concomitant use of serotonergic drugs (eg, SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, mirtazapine, fentanyl, lithium, tramadol and methylene blue IV). Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <1 mth. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, constipation, diarrhoea, dizziness, fatigue, abdominal pain, insomnia.
Drug Interactions
Serotonin syndrome in concomitant use w/ 5-HT3 receptor antagonists, SSRIs & SNRIs.
