Ambroxol is a mucolytic. It helps clear lungs in cough associated with excessive mucus production.
Take Ambroxol exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Take it together with food or immediately after a meal. Try to take it at the same time each day.
Ambroxol is available as a tablet, extended-release capsule, or as a syrup.
If you are taking the syrup, shake the bottle well before you take it to ensure that the liquid is evenly mixed. Use the measuring spoon or cup provided to measure out your prescribed dose.
The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the dose and course of your treatment depending on your condition.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double dose under any circumstances.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- lung disease or infection e.g. pneumonia, airflow obstruction, severe uncontrolled asthma
- stomach ulcer
- liver disease
- kidney disease
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Ambroxol may cause any of the following side effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, indigestion, heartburn (a condition wherein food or acid from your stomach backs up into your mouth, leaving a sour or bitter taste), bloatedness, stomach pain, altered taste, dry mouth or throat.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking certain antibiotics e.g. amoxicillin, cefuroxime, erythromycin, doxycycline.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
