Penicillin-sensitive patients. Cross-allergenicity between penicillins & cephalosporins. Consider diagnosis of pseudomembranous colitis in patients w/ diarrhea. Overgrowth of clostridia. Discontinue if superinfection & allergic reaction occur. Periodic monitoring of renal & hepatic functions, & hematological tests. Adjust dose in patients w/ renal impairment (CrCl 22-50 mL/min) do not exceed 3 g daily; (10-20 mL/min) do not exceed 1.5 g daily, (<5 mL/min) do not exceed 500 mg. False +ve reaction for urinary glucose w/ Benedict's & Fehling's soln or w/ Clinitest.
